Chris Irons

Strata Adviser

Expertise

Chris joins Hynes as a Strata Adviser, after five years as Queensland’s Commissioner for Body Corporate and Community Management – the only role of its type in the world where he was the leader of over 30 staff based in Brisbane, Chris oversaw his Office’s delivery of statutory information and dispute resolution services to the strata sector.

Chris joins the team as an industry thought leader with years of practical experience working within the strata sector. As a part of the Hynes Legal team, Chris will draw upon his previous experience as Commissioner for Body Corporate and Community Management and an intimate understanding of the macro and micro issues that stakeholders face, to provide a holistic and innovative service offering that falls outside of legal advice. Chris's specific advisory services will include; alternative dispute resolution, education and training and guidance all aimed at assisting clients in navigating the maze that is strata

Bringing over 20 years’ experience in stakeholder engagement, policy and body corporate legislation, Chris forges collaborative partnerships with peak body representatives and body corporate managers to enhance commercial outcomes and empower confident decision making.  Motivated by creative expression, knowledge sharing and thinking laterally, his expertise also encompasses Not-for-profit Legislation, Real Estate, Fair Training and Community Education.

Rather than be chained to the desk in Brisbane, as Commissioner Chris made a point of getting out to locations around the State – sometimes interstate and overseas as well – to meet with stakeholders of all types and interests at events, seminars, forums, conferences and meetings. He will be doing the same at Hynes Legal. You may have seen or met Chris at one of these seminars and if so, you’d know that in addition to being approachable and direct, Chris is informative and pragmatic. He knows that body corporate law is complex and technical, particularly for the novice and his focus is about arriving at practical, workable solutions, delivered through information and education. Chris is a trained mediator and knows the value of alternative dispute resolution, particularly in body corporate disputes where unlike other kinds of disputes, the parties will still have to see and interact with each other after a resolution is reached. Getting to the underlying issues and establishing a sound knowledge base is Chris’s priority.

Chris is the President of a community legal centre on Brisbane’s north side and is also the human slave to a retired racing greyhound named Ernest, who has all the necessary body corporate approvals.
