Changes to compulsory reporting arrangements

The Department of Health has announced new arrangements for compulsory reporting under the Aged Care Act 1997.

Reporting responsibilities have not changed – approved providers remain required to report any allegation or suspicion of an assault to the police within 24 hours of becoming aware of, or suspecting, a reportable assault. Approved providers must also notify the Department of Health on 1800 081 549.

The Department has indicted that a more streamlined approach to reporting will be available from 15 February 2016, with providers being able to report to the Department by completing an online form.

We will keep you updated on the changes to come. In the meantime, providers must continue to report any allegation or suspicion of a reportable assault to the Department by telephone, and the police.
